WTF?

Cleaning up my Dana 44 front and found a bondo like substance on the driver side of the carrier. It was about the size of a quarter and on a casting. It was light color and had a stubborn green paint like substance mixed in. Hard to believe that it belonged there so I removed it. Green stains on my fingers from rubbing it...
