I bit the bullet and bought me another Haggerty Snapress today. They run $119 to $200 on eBay. I've never seen them cheaper. I paid $100 for my first one in about 1986 or 87. Some of you may remember pics of that first one. I still have it, but the legs are to short for modern transmissions, and it didn't have the shaft through hole in the top. I wanted to buy just the SA-2 kit to convert mine, but I never found anyone that stocked the kit and Haggerty just gave me a list of their retailers and they refuse to sell direct. They weren't very supportive at all. Figured it might work out better anyway. This way I'll have one set up for the short drums and 1 set up for the deep drums and won't be constantly changing the config of the tool and some transmissions have both deep and shallow.

So first pics are of my original one, then the conversion kit I could have used if I ever found it for sale, and then the brand new I bought today still in it's original retail box needing assembled. I made an offer of $85, they countered back at $90 with FREE Shipping, so I guess I saved $29 anyway.

So a buddy of mine in Cali said he can get me that SA-2 update kit for $65 plug shipping. Now I'm glad I just decided to buy another one and got a good deal of $90 shipping included. It came today in factory retail box. I got it put together in about 5 minutes. It's exactly what I was hoping and expecting. As said, I think I made the right decsion to just get another complete unit since I found one for $90. Now I'll have one set up for shallow drums and 1 set up for deep drums and not have to waste time going back and forth or if one should break which I havn't broke the 1st in 30 years so I see no reason they should break now.

See the only difference is the length of the legs and the round window for a shaft to go through on the newer design. Just 3 parts different, otherwise it's the same spring compressor for Auto Transmission drums.

Yep, that's a LITTLE bandsaw. So what type of electrical mods did you have to make to your house to operate that thing???

lol. the motor isn’t actually all that big, i think it’s a 2 hp 220 single phase.

they run a gear box so that’s where they get there power. the lathe i have on the other hand runs a 10hp 220 3 phase setup

Ohhh OK. I was thinking it probably was a 220 3 phase unit as big as it looks.
