NP203 stuck in Neutral, lever will not budge HELP

Have a 1976 K20 with the full time 4wd (np203) and my genius of a friend shifted it from low to high while the gears were stilling spinning in the t case. Long story short it’s stuck somewhere between N-H loc and is basically in neutral with only the parking brake holding it stopped. The lever will not budge out of high (I think? There is a small amount of play) I have tried rolling it backwards and it is still stuck please help.

While the engine is running, try pulling or pushing on the lever with the trans in neutral. You can try shifting the trans while moving the t-case lever as well but it will give some unhappy grinding should it decide to shift.

Get underneath, remove linkage, it's binding, shift to neutral, it should shift freely, align and reattach linkage.

NP203 shifters are notoriously problematic, there’s a much MUCH greater chance it’s a shifter issue.

I tried shifting it with the trans in neutral with a little tap of the throttle and it just just wouldn’t budge, I’ll try the linkage tomorrow, got stuck at work today.

I pulled the floorpan on my 76 (30 years ago) & adjusted the case shifter with a 1/4 drill bit. NP 203 are temperamental at times.

Went to remove linkage and it immediately unbound itself, and now it shifts through every range incredibly easily after adjusting it. It has clearly not been adjusted in at least 30-40 plus years. Thanks all for your help!

Thanks but unfortunately, I am not familiar with NP203s or any transfer case for that matter as I almost never received inquiries about rebuild transfer cases. So stopped offering T-case overhaul as a service years ago.
