Put my stock oil pan off my 305 onto my new 350 (1974 block) there is no provisions in the block to press in the dipstick tube like the 305 so I'm guessing I need one that pressed into pan? Has anyone run into this problem or no what pan I need? It's going into a 79 k10.

Starting with 1980 engines, GM moved the dipstick to the passenger side. Your 1974 engine will need a 79 or earlier pan. This is a very nice one, but you can find cheaper versions, or maybe a used stock pan somewhere.

I've been using one of the blue fel-pro ones. Haven't noticed any leaks with it... at least nothing as bad as my cork valve cover gaskets!

Make sure you got the correct one. Iirc, there were two different thicknesses to the seal at the front (and rear?) of the oil pan.

Well then I guess I'll use it!! Any tips trucks?
If your pan and timing cover are like new at most just a dab of silicone on the corners(check fit)I've used them with nothing at all and never have a leak, re use them over and over never an issue. If your pan and cover are not the best then smear a bit of silicone across the ends..

Yep, thick and thin, depends on the timing cover..

Agree with using a 79 or an earlier pan. Cheap indeed!

Definately go with the one piece oil pan gasket. The multi piece gaskets always seem to leak. I replaced my leaky oil pan gasket with the one piece (blue rubber) with the motor in place and didn't even have to lift the motor off the mounts.

I applied a thin film of red rtv to the block and the pan...let it get tacky, then installed the gasket. Leak free seal!
