Who makes a good Oil sending unit?

Just bought an 80psi Standard Motor one, in less than 200 miles either it or my gauge died. Won't read over 30psi now. I do plan to test the pressure with my mechanical diagnostic gauge to make sure, but at this point i am really pointing my finger at the sending unit.

So who makes a good one?

For the factory gauge? I've usually got an assortment of working GM units on hand, but when I have bought them from the parts store, they work fine.

Same, I've had a cheapo AutoZone sender on my 87' and now my 84' (engine transplant). Still working fine.

If you really want to try it, here is an ACDelco:

This is a 60 psi sender, I believe. Not sure what the PN for the 80 psi sender is.

Ya, for the factory gauge. I had a leaky 60psi unit paired with my 80psi gauge so that needed to be changed/paired correctly. It was working great and i drove 3 times and something gave out.

I need to make sure the plug is in the block above the filter, but there is no reason i can't extend the wire and just put my sender down there, right? Behind the dizzy is a pain to replace.

Got my mech gauge hooked up to the port above filter. Almost 50psi @ 1000rpm with a luke warm engime temp. Will what it is at hot idle/1000rpm (throttle kicker engaged/defrost setting)

Dash gauge reported about 35psi. The port above the filter and the one behond the dizzy are the same oil passage iirc?

Hot engine, 10psi@ 600, 50psi@ 3000..... So i am happy enough with that. Dash gauge just reads between 10-30. Hoping it is just the sender

I had a gauge do that before as well. It would not read past 15-20. Replaced sender first, then the gauge

Will do. I moved the sender to the lower position for now. No change so that is good.

Maybe just end up putting it back up top, it wasnt horrible to remove this time since i had my cruise servo removed. Last time was a huge pain

My money is on a faulty gauge.

If you unplug the sender wire and turn on the ignition, a working gauge should be pegged out. When you ground out the wire, it should full-sweep the other way.

If you unplug the sender wire and turn on the ignition, a working gauge should be pegged out. When you ground out the wire, it should full-sweep the other way.
I will go test that

next question is then where do i find a replacement 80psi gauge?

Big block trucks maybe? I think my old '86 had the 80 psi unit. I don't know what the 6.2 and 4.3 trucks used.

Luckily it passed those tests so i plan to swap sending units tomorrow to a BWD s768. Should fix my issue i think/hope

during test drove worked great! restarted the truck and it was pegged at 20psi and wouldn't move. restarted again, pegged at 10, restarted again stuck on 0.

wtf, is my truck killing sending units or is it a gauge issue? i tested the open & grounded circuit again and the gauge seems to work.

how do i test the sending unit? do i just test the Ohms between the connector and the body of the sending unit?

correct on sending unit measurement. One note, cheap voltmeters are horrible on measuring resistance.
