i was just wondering what year of pickup truck heater cores will work in my 81.
iv got a spare 77 78 95 06 laying around for parts.

1973 through 1987 are all the same, so either the 77 or the 78 will fit your 81:

You can sell the cores from the 95 & 06.

I just did mine last year. the aftermarket cores that I tried would not fit right. they were all loose in the factory mounts. I tried from different part sources they were all the same. I returned them all, you can't have your core bouncing around in a 4x4. would not last long. so I took my factory leaky core to my radiator guy. he ordered one from his supplier and sure enough it wasn't the same dimensions would have been loose. so he took mine stock one removed the tanks(ends) ordered a bare core and soldered my tanks on. fit perfect, just like factory. cost a little more but for a good fit I think it was worth it. highdesertranger

i just replaced mine a couple days ago. It was a spectra from NAPA and it fit perfectly. Just keep in mind there is a difference in heater cores in trucks with A/C and trucks without. The trucks with A/C use a bigger core.
