I have the diesel in & running. Now I'm tackling some rust issues while it's apart.

I think I'm gonna tackle it from the engine bay side. I've never done a square heater core but my buddy says I should be able to drop my slosh tub and take the AC box off the firewall rather than dropping the box under the dash. I've got 3 more events to do before the truck goes down for some major repairs/surgery so I'm just going to loop the lines at the water pump for now
I've never tried it from the engine bay side. I did mine from the cab. It wasn't as bad as my '73 Firebird. I'm too fat and creaky for that now.

You can't get the heater core through the firewall. If that's what you're saying. Not on squares 100%. a/c or non a/c, the heater core is solid mounted to the inside box, even if it wasn't there is no hole to get it through.

newer chevy leafs are far longer than 56". The 91-up truck springs are 63". GMT-400 suburban/yukon springs are 61" and are the same length from the rear mount to the pin as the 56" springs on our trucks. You can use them and not move the axle by moving the forward rear spring mounts forward by 4". That's what I have on my truck. They are from a 97 K2500 Suburban.
good to know thank you. So with 52"ers I gotta move the rear back 4" (to make 56") and then front 4" forward.

[2nd edit]....will this add any lift? I need 2". I guess heavier duty springs will do it.

Added it to my spreadsheet so it's easier to find the info.

No. The 52" springs are 26" from the front eye to the center pin and also rear eye to center pin. The 56" springs are 26" on the front and 30" on the rear, so front mount doesn't move and the rear mount moves back about 4". The holes are already in the frame of most squares to move the rear mount. The 61" GMT-400 and later suburban/tahoe springs are 30" both front and rear, so you have to move the rear mount to the rear 56" holes and then move the front mount ~4" forward and drill new holes for the mount. That doesn't work with the stock 20 gallon saddle tanks because they already sit all the way against the front spring mounts. I think they will clear the 16 gallon tanks, but I'm not sure. I just switched to a center mounted 31 gallon blazer tank instead.

That's what I thought too but he swore you could. I'll have to go check one of our stripped cabs out back

67-72 had the heater core mounted in the engine bay box. Then squares and 90's chevys have them hard mounted to the inside box. I can't remember when or if gm went to engine bay mount after that. Squares 100% can't go through the firewall, unfortunately.

Started the fab work for my AC to non-AC swap. Might as well do it whilst the motor is out. Ignore the welds, still trying to master my new-ish welder. You don't have to be the best welder, just a really good grinder ;)

Looks good! I know this is a few page's ago but i thought id share what I did to my 78 when i converted a/c to non a/c to make room for the turbo. I alongated the non a/c fan housing to cover the hole and used existing a/c heater core and blower motor resistor. The heater works good that's all I care about.

Dang. I knew they were under the dash, was just hoping there'd be an access cover or something you could remove. Poop.

Ohhh, I see now. Thanks! I've done cores on other vehicles, just never a square. That's gonna be a huge PITA considering my computer and half my swap harness is directly above the box

48-53 had it on the inside. I would imagine 53-59 also would be inside. So far it's seeming like gm trucks only did a firewall mount for 12 years lol.

Made new brake lines from the proportioning valve to the master cylinder. Got to use the AN-3 brake lines I got from a member so years ago. 45 deg at the proportioning valve, and 37 deg at the master cylinder. Got to use both of my dyes in my brake line flaring tool.
