Whoz done this successfully?
Carpet and seat cover are getting replaced when I redo the interior. But the velour looking combing pads on the door panels are in great shape except the drivers side is not blue anymore. I’m sure the pass side is fairly faded as well.
Thinking about just dyeing these back to an acceptable shade of blue.
Experience with this?

I’ve used spray upholstery dye with good results, also those inserts are available from different vendors. Combined with new chrome door handle bezels, it would look like new

Thanks. So the spray dyes, duplicolor, SEM etc stay somewhat soft? Never used them before.
I’ve seen the new inserts, but this isn’t going to be a show car. $100 for inserts, 500 for new door panels, $____ for door handles, etc. I could spend 3 grand on the inside of the cab and as it is, it’ll be $1000 for the stuff you can’t fake. Like a good dash pad, carpet/vinyl and seat cover etc.
Trying to keep this at a reasonable level of investment. And show my kid that you can do things without a credit card sometimes. Lol
Most of it is too nice to just toss in favor of new, imo. Besides it’ll get used as a truck by the (kids). Whether it’s loading the dirt bikes or hauling gravel or mowers.

Trick with the Duplicolor stuff (I use it on faded carpet too) is spray it....let it dry, then brush your hand over it....like new stiff suede. Then spray it again. Wash-rinse-repeat. I do this 3-4x and its like new.

Done deal. That’s what I’m doing.
No wear n tear on that anyways.
I thought about dyeing the carpet too. It’s not in horrible condition. Sort of looking forward for the opportunity to put a rubber floor in it though...

Be sure to brush it after it's dry with a brissle brush or it will be stiff.

Sounds like you've had this problem before, Doug!

Used to dye upholstery for used car lots. Carpet, seats and whatnot. Used water based dye with a paint gun. It's work but, you can get it pretty good. But, yeah you GOTTA BRUSH IT or it will be stiff no matter what you use.
