Did the cable break off at the trans? Have you taken the bolt that holds the cable to trans off yet? Take that bolt off, take the rest of the cable housing off slowly. You should see where the cable is hooked to a wire that sticks out of the little whole. Let me know what you got or where you're at on this. I can get you some pics.

If the wire is there, you don't have to remove the pan. If its not, then you'll have to remove the pan to hook the wire. You trans will perfrom so much better with that cable hooked up.

Well **** the bed Agnus !!! If you don't have the wire sticking out of the hole, then you'll need to drop the pan to install the wire on the linkage portion insdie the trans.

That wire goes to the trans valve linkage inside the pan, then your cable hooks to the other side. Here is a pic of how its set up inside the pan. This was from a trans I was disassembling, so that's why its so dirty.

Once you drop the pan, its right there. A piece of cake. Just a PITA that you have to drop the pan. The pics above show what you'll see when you drop the pan and what you need to do. Its pretty self explanatory once you drop the pan and know what you have to do. It woudl be a good time to change your trans filter too if you haven't done so in awhile.

That cable serves more than just passing gear. It also applies throttle pressure to drag out the shift points depending on how hard you get on the throttle. Without the cable hooked up, the trans will always shift way to early. The trans will shift much better with some throttle/detent pressure.

That hook is the wire I am reffering to that is missing and why You'd have to pull the pan to fix it. Maybe its laying in the pan?
