I've never seen an FM radio with a single speaker.
Does the knob behind the station knob turn from right to left, and if so, is there sound when turned all the way in one direction, but not in the other direction, while in FM mode?

Got an AM/FM that I ordered in my 75 K-20. Single speaker and the right adjuster knob turns free(kinda it's almost 43 years old)

I reckon they did make mono FM radios, then. I thought maybe a previous owner had replaced an AM with an AM/FM, and hooked it up to the AM speaker.

The reason that specs for many replacement speakers recommend using them only with aftermarket radios is that the speaker resistance on the old radios was different. Old 70's and 80's OEM radios used 8 ohm speakers, while most newer radios are designed for 4 ohm speakers.

You can mix and match speaker resistance up to a point, and it might only affect the volume. However, the output amp in the radio is matched to speaker resistance, so a mismatched speaker could potentially overheat the output amp and burn it out. This is the same reason the docs usually tell you to never run the radio without speakers attached.
