At some unknown time in the past, the wiper motor on my 82 was replaced. Of course it has that mechanical cam actuated abomination of engineering for a washer pump - the design that has a 100% failure rate.

Of course it has failed. Makes a single noise then nothing, no wimpy, periodic, pulsating, pathetic squirts of liquid upon the filthy glass.

How hard it is to get rid of that and replace it with a real pump?

It's a pretty easy swap. You will need a universal washer pump, a tee and some extra hose. mount the pump below the level of the bottom of your reservoir and connect the the lines. I believe the plug with the white and black wires is what you need to unplug from the factory pump and splice onto the universal pump. As an alternative you could look for a washer reservoir with the pump directly atrached and do about the same thing. If I were to do it over thats what I would do.
