removing fuel tank

on my 86 k20 how do i drop the tank? i got the straps off but it looks like those tank braces that are bolted to the frame have to come off.??

yes you have to unbolt the brackets that bolt to the frame and drop it down that way, there will be wires hooked to the top of the tank and your fuel lines might want to get them loose before dropping the tank to far

Yup, you drop the whole tank/bracket/strap assembly. When I dropped mine, the rubber hoses were trash and basically disconnected themselves. You will want to replace the fuel hoses, but make them longer so they make a full loop... it will make it much easier to put the tank back up in there.

I'd definitely have a few concrete blocks or scrap lengths of 6x6 wood to give you some support to 1/2 way lower it and get the lines aloose, if you plan to reuse them. Especially doing it by yourself.

got it out,, and both straps are broke. it looks as if the straps are rivited in the bracket. how to i install new ones and remove old from bracket??>

Drill. New straps should come with small bolts to put them on with.

i dont drill down through the bracket right?? just through the strap

You just drill the rivets out, using whatever size bit fits the new bolts they give you.
EDIT: yes you'll have to drill all the way through, since the new bolts have to pass through the bracket too.
