I never pulled a SB motor before. Is there 6 bolts holding the trans to the block, and they are all 9/16", right? And how many bolts on the converter/flywheel and what size are they? Are they just bolts or is there nuts on them too?

Also on the converter/flywheel. Is the bolt pattern made so it only matches in one postion? When I did motor swaps on old 727's the bolt pattern was like that and if you didn't mark the flywheel/converter before you unbolted it it was a bitch to try and find the right position to put it back togather.

First things first, you're not working on a Dodge, so don't sweat that. GM doesn't use that boomerang looking flexplate, since the converter and flexplate teeth are seperate pieces.
Yep, 6 Bolts to the bell housing, 9/16ths. Should be 3 bolts to the Torque converter, and in your year model, I am wanting to say they may be 15mm bolts. Usually 6 bolts on the flywheel and in the older motors they are usually 11/16ths in some bigger motors stangely rare, but some are 3/4. You won't have to worry about that though. But you will just take out the 3 bolts to the converter, the flywheel will stay on and come out with the motor.

Ok, and is there a nose on the converter that goes into a spot on the flywheel? Will I have to pry the converter back from the flywheel or just take the bolts out and it's good?

Shouldn't have to pry a thing. Just take the bolts out, and use your hand and push the converter rearward into the transmisison. Should give you about an inch to inch and a half gap.

Never used one.

On the TBI truck that I got hotrod's harness from, the bellhousing bolts were 18mm.

And they sure could be. Now that I think of it, I am not sure sure I ever pulled a trans from a TBI motor. Just done bench jobs.

That one long silver tool looks like it greabs the flywheel teeth and holds it while you break the bolts loose I guess. Usually I use a screwdriver for that.
