I have my cab and bed off and figure now is the time to clean up and paint the frame a little. Anyone have any suggestions for paint on a budget? Or should I just clean and spray with undercoating?

I'd undercoat it. People have problems down the road with rust bubbling up if their prep work was poor, but if you get it nice and clean, rubberized undercoating will keep the frame clean for a long time.

For an inepxneisve solution, you can use farm and implement paint. You can use their hardener and reducer.

My next go around is going to use EZ Slide graphite paint from tractor supply. It's a good option if you don't care that the frame will be graphite colored.

I've heard great things about POR 15.

That said, i just redid mine using rustoleum 'rust reformer'. its a flat black, and some people recommend putting a top coat on it. I didn't - the flat black sort of hides the pitting ;) no idea how badly the lack of top coat will affect how it holds up.

Prepped by pressure washing to remove grime/surface rust. Scraped heavier rust off. then wire wheeled as much as I could get to (didn't go too crazy though).

It looks really good right now. Not sure how long itll last.

I paint nearly everything with Rustoleum Heavy Rust Primer and Rustoleum semi-flat. Takes awhile to dry, but holds up great.
