My new cable arrived and when i removed the odld it leaked what seamed like half a quart trans oil which i didnt see in how to vids. The problem im having is the old cable fitting on the trans side is smooth and my new one seems threaded. Did i purchase the wrong cable?

While i installing the new cable the end that goes to the trans appears to have threads and doesnt want to easily slide in. Also lost what looked like a half quart of trans fluid when The old one was removed. Not sure if thats normal or if trans fluid was to high.

When I bought a replacement for my Jimmy, it was smooth. I got it from Amazon, though, because I think I had a gift card. Is it the same diameter? If so, you still have to seal it up with the TV cable grommet, or it'll leak to high heaven. In that case, there's no way for a threaded end to be screwed in even if the trans had the female threads. I should have mentioned the grommet earlier. I forgot when I installed the cable and had to do it over again because it just poured so much fluid out. Mine just dripped a little when I changed it. None of the retail stores sell the grommet, but all the online stores do. I got mine Site to Store at Walmart.

Reason fluid leaked out is because when it's not running fluid is not being pumped through the system, so fluid runs back into the pan and the level is a ways above the pan rail, that's why you always check the level when it's running.

New snag. The new bracket mounts on the back of the carb but my brake booster attachment is in the way.

Yep, weld a strap across the top then cut the side out.

Did you get the cable installed in the transmission? I don't think those are threads. It's more of what I'd consider knurling. Sorta helps fix wallered out holes and helps keep the leaks down. It's not a bad thing if you needed it, but it can be a PITA. Just lube it up good and make it work. It's probably tighter than a 12yo, but that's a good thing. Work with it. It'll go.

That adjustmet and the exta long cable is what makes that the universal cable.
