Just installed a new pioneer stereo turns on and everything but won’t play audio… yellow with yellow and red with what?? Because the only way the stereo turns on is if I connect both yellow and red with yellow… won’t work with any other also if it’s on why won’t it play audio already tried connecting new speakers directly to stereo before I rewire truck…

the new radio has a constant power and a power turn on wire.

constant power keeps the clock and memories.
hook that up to the fuse block somewhere that is always hot.

power turn on goes to key/acc on wire (dash opening)
this 'signals' the radio to turn on but not intended to supply the higher amperage source.
(factory head unit just on/off and not as much power needed)

anyway, no audio could be many things.

a lot of new head units have 'fm muting'.
if no signal, no audio, rather than static.

could also be the fader setting.
faded all the audio to the rear or front and you're testing the opposite pair.

you're testing one speaker and the head unit 'knows' the other side is open and won't excite the amp.

sorry, i'm not too bad at car audio in person but remote diagnostics are not my forte.

good luck!

Yellow used to be "Illumination" on Pioneers, which means connect to headlight switch so when lights are on, so is head unit illumination. Red is power on, usually accessory power, orange should be "memory" or constant power, very low draw but to maintain clock, presets.

I just looked it up, it looks like NOW yellow is memory, orange is illumination. I SWEAR the older Pioneer stuff had yellow as illumination. Maybe I'm losing my mind!

What do you use for a constant power source?

Yellow should be switched ignition power
Black should be ground
Grey should be illumination

Red to constant power and yellow to key on power. I think blue is to turn on an amp if you have one. If not leave it.
