ok here is what I have done so far with my sound system. please excuse the dark photos haha.
these are my 4 inch soundstream sst4.0 speakers that actually come with an external crossover which i have hidden under the dash. and before anyone says anything it is not the original dash cover!! it is a replacement and i figured id put speakers in em and if i dont like it i could remove them when i replace the dash pad. the current dash pad was cracking pretty badly and falling apart where stock speakers were. I decided just to go with the included grills for now.

so heres the interesting part. i started off with 6x9s behind the seat in their box. 2 problems. no mids or highs, and 6x9 bass isnt good enough to warrant keepin em back there!!! so i cut the faces off the enclosures so i had a nice pannel to mount the speakers in. i wedged the pannel ( with the speaker mounted ) as shown in the picture and shaved off of the pannel a little at a time until it was at enough of an angle to fit back there nicely. then i took an L bracket and mounted in one spot. This is plenty because one side is wedged and the other is bolted. no noise/rattling and EASY to remove if needed. all i need now is a speaker baffle to make a true airtight enclosure, and to make a top for it with what is left of the old speaker box. so here is the speaker as is ( soundstream sst6.9s ) mounted in place. the towels back there were a cheap attempt to see if it would muffle the speaker enough to keep me from needing a real baffle. as i expected it didnt work. but hey worth a try.

this is how the 6x9s are mounted. the wire is currently going to the left sub.

and here is the best part of it all. 2 12 inch kicker cvt subs mounted in a thin enclosure!! i only have to move the seat up one notch and these really can make you feel the bass especially up close to the seat. i still have plenty of room even as i am 6'1". the enclosure was the PERFECT height to mount to the little pannel thing hanging down behind the seat on both sides and i mounted them in the bottom corners with an L bracket also for a total of 4 mounts. it aint goin nowhere. the first day i had it it was being held temporarily by tape!!

heres the top mount

and the bottom..

if i seem to have left anything out let me know! if there are any questions id be glad to help. this was all done by whatever idea came to mind and i worked completely on my own. im on a tight budget!! but hey its atleast decent for a 16 year old!:grd:

When you attach a pic, while you're still editing the post, down where it says "manage attachments" click the pic and a new tab or window opens. Copy the URL of the pic, then go back to the post editor and click the icon that looks like a little gray mountain in a yellow box. Paste the URL there and hit ok and it puts [ IMG] tags on it. You can click "quote" on my post and see how it looks for this pic...

Hope this helps!

Is that a factory box? Or did you build it?

i do not currently have an amp, but when i do get one it will go under the seat. right now the subs are running off of the rear outputs of the head unit and are surprisingly loud for no amp. so it is not necessary for now. i dont have the 6x9s hooked up now because in order to have the subs loud enough i have the fader to the rear and the bass up. with the 6x9s ran parallel with the subs it works but to have enough bass i have to turn in way up.... which makes the 6x9s that much louder because they are a lot more efficient than the subs yet do not have a good bass response. so it sounds better (for now) without the 6x9s playing. but i will get an amp for the subs sometime so that i can control bass separately and have the full sound of 4 speakers 1 in each corner. i plan on getting soundstreams tx1.2000d amp. I know this is capable of more power than the rms of the subs. but a powerful amp running below max power will sound better and last longer than a weaker amp running full blast. one just has to be careful not to push the subs too hard.
