I used to love that show Trucks! when Stacey David hosted it :) the two new guys are alright but their projects are different than what Stacey did.

It seemed like Stacey was a little more happy to be there also. Like you said the two new guys are OK, but a little too serous for me.

Stacey David has a show called "Gearz" now... at least, he did. I'm not sure now, I don't have cable anymore. It had been on for a couple years.

Yeah, I've seen Gearz a few times before. He did more work on Sargeant Rock and even wrenched on a square for DD use. He even did a complete mod job on a miata. It actually ended up cool :) he's got some awesome fab skills :)

i have cut a 64 a 68 and am in the process of cutting a 90 crew cab all from long bed to short.

if you are a good welder and take the time to cut the frame clean and staight. and fit it good and fish plate and box it. i see no problem with it.

my 64 4x4 has been abused off road for 6 years still strong its a mud truck.

Big rigs are cut and stretched all the time, My dad use to stretch truck frames every day for condo sleepers, and dump trucks.

Pops been there don that too worked for a company for awhile that did conversions in Florida to trucks. We would take a single axle Mack tractor strip the fram from the cab back then double the fram add some new heavier tandems and add a dump body on it and a wet kit and turn a 25000 dollar trator into a 75000 dump truck.

sorry to dig up an old thread. stacey david did a complete long to short bed conversion on a 68-72 chevrolet truck on gears, the episodes are on youtube as "lmc short bed conversion" if the frames are basically the same, which judging from looks they aren't. you have to cut 12 inches under the cab, then 8 inches off of the back.

I chopped mine down, hell even added the passenger side fuel door that was cut out from the longbed donor.

The most important thing to do when cutting the frame is to "z" cut the frame, rather than just chop it in a straight line. Measure twice, cut once and weld it up (i also back plated mine). Main reason for doing this is finding a shortbed truck intact is getting harder these days. Longbeds are all over and not as desirable . Long beds for this reason dont sell for as much. Shorter driveline, modify the parking brake cable, or shorten, tuck the extra tail light wires or splice shorter, and as far as the gas tanks...hmmm I didnt need to do anything with mine. My body lines match, the bed sits even, hell most people would never think it started life as a longbed. Its really not that difficult to think outside the "box". The only way to tell is to crawl up underneath as my welds are even with both gas tanks.

I cut 12" out of the frame, and NO...you dont cut 8 inches off the back. If you do, you will really have a shortbed truck.....

as i said before, he did it on a 68-72 truck, and i know the frames are different bc of the suspension set up. the beds were longer both in the front, and rear
