I need to order intake plenum gaskets for my 79 k2 400, and I can't find them. Can anyone help? Is there another name for them?

Not sure, the mechanic that is going to fix it for me said intake plenum gaskets, he can't find them locally so I'm trying to order online,my understanding is the plenum gaskets are different. The intake manifold gaskets are readily available so I think the plenum gaskets are different.

If that's the terminology that your mechanic used, you probably don't want them working on your truck. If your mechanic also can't find intake gaskets for a small block Chevy, you really don't want them working on your truck. They sound very incompetent, imho.

I figured it out, and he knows exactly what he's talking about. they are pretty hard to come by for some reason. I found where I can order them but won't ship till the end of June :( See for yourself. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/aju-00819600

That summit link you shared is a heat riser gasket for a GM inline six (goes between the intake and exhaust manifold).

That does not fit and has no place on a small block Chevy.

@yellowdog5 As mentioned, that gasket he is saying you need is not for a chevy v8 engine, it is to be sandwiched between the exhaust and intake on inline 6 engines, to use exhaust heat to warm the underside of the carburetor. He probably needs one for a different job or his own vehicle and is using you to pay for it.

Imo, the mechanic using the term "plenum" for a small block Chevy shows he's not familiar with the motor. He might be good with late model cars that have 2 piece intake manifold set ups that have plenum gaskets but your 400 may be somewhat of a learning experience for him.

OR... he doesn't want to do the job and is sending you on a wild goose chase to kill time.

AND @yellowdog5 I think all of us are concerned about your tech not knowing the proper nomenclature and the parts application for your Square Body.......be careful!!!
Yeah I am wondering about that too, having trouble finding someone to work on it.
