Buying tools is just like buying anything else. You get what you pay for. If you buy a cheap $5 ratchet dont expect to last forever as compared to getting a snap on or a SK Tool ratchet.

Hey Retro,

Sorry Dave, I missed this. Been so damned busy.

Wizard = very good, were made by Indestro and sold at Western Auto

New Britain = again, very good. I love NB tools, shame they aren't around anymore.

GM Goodwrench = usually Taiwan made, average.

My $5 rats will last forever... :High 5:

1932 Indestro:
You must be registered for see images attach

Very coarse tooth though...But all rats back then were coarse.

1945 Plomb:
You must be registered for see images attach

Paid $1 for it at a yard sale...I like it better than my Snap Ons.

What about the old husky stuff? I got a husky socket from the pawn shop that has the grip ring on it. What the lettering codes for the craftsman wrenches? Which letters are good grab up?

Old Husky is great. Much of it is made by New Britain.

I'm not a huge fan of C-man wrenches. The raised panels are fine for some, but they cut into my hands. But any USA made wrenches are pretty good.

Taiwan and China. Their parent company Alltrade is sold at Big Lots so that tells you a lot right there about the quality.

I inherited a few Alltrade ratchets from my older brother (just cheap sets my parents bought to put in their cars when they were younger).

They all suck, horribly. The ratcheting mechanisms skip on a regular basis if you put them under any real stress...

On a side note, Retro, do you happen to know where Channel-lock socket sets are made? I've got a kit of theirs I've had for about 4-5 years that's gone through hell and back with no issues other than the cap screws that hold the ratcheting mechanisms in loosen up every now and then.

Made in U.S.A. Pretty good quality too.
