TBI is a glorified carbonator.
It still has a com puter controlling fuel rejectors and my truck had the little tailgate badge that said "fuel injection"

I've still got the little tailgate fi badge from my '87. It's in a drawer right next to a Cadillac V4-6-8 emblem. Lol.

They were a lot prouder of it by then. The badge off the back of the '87 is only about 1/2" tall x 4" wide.

Fixed it for ya.. :D
Actually it isn't. TBI is a very reliable system. Requires very little to no maintenance and goes and goes and goes. Doesn't make a ton of power but it's reliable.

I am aware that it actually is Fuel Injection. It's just a multi port system where each cylinder has it's own injector.

I'm with ya on that @74 Shortbed . I'd take CPI with a Delphi spider swap like I did on my 99 Hoe over TBI ( terribly bothersome injection)

Of course there's better systems than TBI, but in Squarebody era, there's nothing wrong with TBI. I too prefer Vortec SFI over SFI though I'd prefer it with a marine injector rail system instead of the spider or on a 454. Not a fan of the spider assembly under the intake. Not only no access, but it's limited to the injector size.

Yep, the Big Block Vortec SFI is fine as oem since it uses a fuel rail system. It's the small block that uses the spider in automotive applications. Boats got the injector rail. From what I hear, you can you use oversize Ferd injectors in the Big Block and Marine Small Block rails.

The other advantage to SFI Vortec engines starting in 96 is that they are roller cam engines. Also a bit easier on the diagnostics since it's OBD ll instead of OBD l.
