Well I got bored today and it was so nice out that I had to find something to do. So I went to AutoZone and bought some Edelbrock valve covers, gaskets, K&N crank case breather, and PCV valve. Also replaced some vacumm lines and a few other things. Was a great day for working on the truck.

Also after I moved all these lines I noticed my carb had a spot on the front that looked like something was broke off of it. Anyone have an idea what was or is suppose to be there? See Photos. Its on the base of the carb on the drivers side.

nice I been doing the same thing myself.

That thing missing is the factory cap or plug to prevent you from getting to the idle mixture screws.

Be sure to wax them valve covers often they'll rust fast. Same with the air cleaner lid.

try some mother's chrome polish it brings off rust pretty good without having to brillo pad it. if it's bad enough then use brillo. Then use mothers chrome wax, even some reg. wax if you want.

Ahhhhh, some played dress up !!!

Looks Good!!!

Yep, that carb is normal. Those are the Emmisions Caps to the carb and they have been broke off, which is what you have to do to be able to adjust the carb. The gubment though it would be cool to make carbs non adjstable in the 80's, so that the average Joe couldn't tinker with it. So if an emmisions tech needed to adjust the carb, he'd have to break the caps out. At any rate, very common to see that.

Thanks for the info. I have recently ordered a rebuilt carb from Guaranteed Carbs out of Florida. It has lifetime waranty and wasn't priced to bad. Motor is still stock so thought i'd just keep the same carb for now. When time for new motor will def get a different one. It should be here Monday. Will take pics when it arrives.
