been told stock fuel pump are junk (1987 350 5.7 TBi) they don't maintain or push enough pressure. Stock i think is 5 to9 psi..friend recommended I up grade to higher pressure pump..and if I do that wouldn't I have to replace pressure regulator as well?

Well, that's not true. That 5-9 number is for carbureted motors, and I would say ideally 5 PSI for those. The stocker TBI pump for SBCs and earlier TBI 454s runs 13 PSI consistently and effectively per the demands of the powerplant when in proper working order. I'm 99% sure my Jimmy is still running the stock pump, and it still gets me from A to B no problem. Granted, I don't know how long it'll keep going, but thirty years and 183,000 miles is quite a haul. If you plan to build a more aggressive 350, 383 stroker, 400, or 454 down the road, then you'd see insufficiency issues. The best way to compensate for that on the fuel pump end is to switch to a 1994-95 TBI 454 stock pump that pushes 30 PSI or go to an aftermarket Walbro pump. You have to do more than that to fully adapt the fuel system, but that's just pertinent to fuel pumps. If you're just running stock or slightly modified, the Delphi replacement pump is generally accepted as the best to go with. RockAuto is likely gonna be the best price you find for that one, and there's a 5% discount code in their preferred vendor section.

stock tbi pumps are good to 12 psi maybe 14 if you get a good one, if you have any plans to increase performace or LS swap it later buy the AC Delc EP381 pump. It is a stock replacement for the 96-99 vortec motor, is a direct swap will support a LS psi and gph needs. No need to mess with your regulator now as it will keep the pressure to the 9-12 PSI gm says the TBI needs. The extra fuel will be returned to the tank.

Yep, 12-15psi is normal range for a TBI, and whoever told you stock is junk is WRONG !!! That's what you need to go back with is a stock AC Delco or Delphi pump. You go with the common aftermarket AirTex, now you've got a real piece of **** that won't last. Go back with an AC Delco or Delphi or nothing else, unless you want to go with a high dollar high performance famous name brand pump like a Holley or Warlboro.

Thoughts on the Spectra sender/pump assembly?

Then, as aforementioned, Delphi and AC Delco are the best ways to go in terms of quality and longevity. I don't remember if the RockAuto catalog has the AC Delco, but I know for sure they have the Delphi.

I'm not 100% positive, but I don't think I've heard anything about Spectra either. I don't recall hearing it named as with something bad like Airtex but I've nothing good from any aftermarket pumps.

They do, $35 for an 87 Blazer.
