Would you buy a fiberglass hood if a reproduction wasn't available in sheet metal?

given the notoriouse problems of the Hoods "kinking" I would NOT use a Fiberglass hood with out eliminating the heavy duty springs found in the 73-80 models, 81-87 was a little better but I have still seen a few of those kink also.

How about on a Ford?

On a Ford, I see no reason for hood. You open and close the damn thing so much to work on it, why bother with a hood? Just leave it off for quicker access.

Hahahaha. Nobody reproduces a 67-72 ford truck truck hood in sheet metal.

That's because there isn't a big enough demand for it. Just make you one out of plywood and a piano hinge. :waytogo:

I'll fix the old one first. A fiberglass one is $500 plus COD shipping.

When rebuilding or restoring vehicles, you just keep your eyes and ears open. You won't acquire everything you need in a weekend. Just be patient, look often, and things will show up. Always a good idea to have quick access to cash too. When times were better, I kept $500 cash hidden, locked up in my gun vault so if a deal to good to be true turned out to be real, I was there in minutes to suck it up before anyone else got it, with cash in hand. Be patient, keep your eyes open, and let people know what you're into, and other people will come to you, hey so and so, has a ..... he needs to get rid of. That is how I got my DD for a $100. My daughter told me her nieghbor had to move it or sell it or the AFB was gonna fine them. They couldn't scrap it thank god cuz they didn't have the title. So I bought it for a $100 and had them file for lost title and I had the title 2 weeks later.

Yep, shake a lot of hands, meet a lot of people, go to a lot of car shows...network. I wouldn't mind using a fiberglass hood, if you pinned it or used struts or a prop rod and get rid of the hood hinge springs. Not sure if the F*rd you're talking about would have the same problems GM hoods do though.

I think I'd use a Fglass hood on a 73-80 cuz of the crinkle issue, but I've never seen an 81-87 hood do that. I would remove the springs on the 73-80 though, and use 4 lock pins at the corners.

The 67-72 ford hoods are pretty bulky they roll over to side pretty thick. There not flat the new ones are. Here's pics below
