I think I like them too, now that the expert isn't here telling us stupid fuckers how to do it, especially me since I haven't had any previous successes at it yet. :bs:

Looks like you got it working. But obviosuly you realize that the rust has done some pitting damage which is not reversible. Still makes a difference though. Get all the rust off and paint it. Bad deal on battery trays, no matter what product you use, the battery electrolyte will eat the product off. That is why its common to see battery trays rusted.

I gonna purple power de rust that thing to help protect it a little better. Yea battery trays hard to come by in the older trucks. I also noticed radiator supports hard to find also that aren't rotted out on either side at the bottom. Like the 72F100 I had the inner fender was rotted out where the battery sitting in a plastic tray and I was waiting for it to fall through but never did.

This past winter I took some sheet metal, a ball-peen hammer and the shoehorn on the back of my vice and made my own replica of a battery tray, out of heavier gauge steel. Made the rolled edge on it and everything like the one in your pic. Used what was left of my old one as a template. All I did was take measurements, cut long and took my time.

I want to make me a new battery tray too. Actually 2 of them One for each side. I want to run dual batteries, and I want the trays bigger so I can use 1000 CCA batteries. The biggest I could find was a 800 CCA that would fit in the current tray.

Will electrolyte eat off engine paint?

Electrolyte from a battery which is sulfuric acid will, Not the electolyte you make with the Electrolysis operation. Electrolysis apparenlty only cleans rust, not grease or paint.

Someone from another forum thought were supposed to use vinger. I was told from a expert on this that can clean grease and paint with this method. He also said on the heavy parts like blocks, heads, manifolds, etc. you can run it on the highest amp setting.
