Hello,

While under my 79 I noticed the crossmember that the muffler attaches to is cracked on the drivers side. It looks like the previous owner had this off at one time because there are newer looking bolts attaching it to the frame but they only put one bolt on each side. Does anyone sell this or will it be a junk yard only part?

Thanks for the help.

You can be sure that "new" OEM frame components for a 1979 model year truck became NLA years ago. So, to answer your question: Yes - that x-member will be available only from JY's.

But you might not have to search the yards yourself. See the post directly below for more information.

I figured OEM parts wouldn't be available anymore, I was kind of wondering if anyone makes reproductions.

Problem with the junk yards out here is the closest one is a 2 hour drive one way so I'll give the eBay seller in that post a message and see if they have a decent one.

Thanks for your help

If it was me I would pull it out and grind out the cracks and weld them closed . Paint it put it back in with All the bolt's and keep a eye on it . but that is just my 2 cent's .

Same thing happened on my 79. I just had it welded up and they added a piece of round stock to brace it. I wasn't too concerned on appearance as my truck is a 4WD.
