So recently I tore down my engine and found quite a bit wrong. Going with a full rebuild (probably with flat top Pistons) and want some imput in which cam/lifters I should get. It's a Chevy 350 has a dual plane intake (don't know the brand), edelbrock 600 CFM carb, MSD distributor, Hedman long tube headers, and a 2800 stall converter. The truck is my Daily driver and got 8 mpg before head gasket blew and engine was taken out. I will probably have it bored .030 over when everything gets machined. The lunati cam that was in it seemed more than mild. I would like it to be street-able but also have some fun with it. Wanting to know what brands to choose from and what specs to get. Also don't want to spend too much on this setup.

I'm running THIS CAM, but I'm not sure it's really a truck/off-road cam. It's a 285, 231°@050, 108°LSA.

I really like tight lobe centers for a peaky mid-range torque and a resulting rough idle. You have the converter - as long as you have the gears. Mine cruises 3000rpm on the highway.

The CompCams 280H is a pretty big cam for a street truck. Probably needs 10:1 compression, 2500 RPM stall converter and 3.73 gears (and that's with 28-30" tires).

252H or 260H would be a better choice for an engine with stock compression, stock converter and anything less than 3.73 gears.

Now if you have a 2600 lb Nova, that's another story.

Edit: Is see you have a 2800 RPM converter. That's one out of three.
