So, I am closer to getting a square and my pet peeve about them is behind the seat(s).

So bland, so utilitarian. Even trucks with buckets seats just had that piece of cardboard back there. I guess at least it doesn't have a gas tank...

My question is, what have others done about it? Left it? Put speakers back there? Netting to hold stuff?

My idea: Maybe try adapting some GMT400 parts back there...Like so:

I like that little shelf for stuff...The fact that it's carpeted and the hard trim across the back. Has anyone else done this? I was also thinking about maybe seeing if I could adapt newer seatbelts too that are adjustable at the B pillars.

not sure if they still make it, i have a hard plastic trat that goes the whole way across the truck, has three levels of shelves in it and a open area for bigger things, would be lost where to put stuff without it

I think retro wants something a little nicer rather than more storage space, or maybe a little of both. Back in the day I think J.C.Whitney had stuff to dress it up back there, like carpet/trim, speaker plates that go in the corners. But if you like subs and amps expect to be riding really close to the steering wheel. Which is why I'm perfectly content with 6x9s in the corners. I think my dad has some kind of thing that attaches to the wall back there that has levels of pouches for storage of things. Next time I'm up there I'll get pics. But really, square owners' options are limited.

I painted mine up, mounted speakers in the corners and mounted my disc changer behind the passenger seat.

That's where I store my jugs of 50/50 and my cover. Once I get my rad fixed, I guess I might consider some 8" truck boxes.

when I get home or my be someone else here might have it. It was a copy of Street Trucks, they did a stereo system nothing wild, but there is a company out there that make a sub box that goes behind the seat, and you can put the seat all the way back, it look real nice they also put some new 6x9 in the corner. I thought it cleaned up the behind the seat area really nice. You might be able to find past write ups on line.

Brownie has the behind the seat pouch thing installed Circa 1985, the one with the long sleeve in the back suitable for holding long items such as hunting rifles, which i think it held the jumper cables, also in the pouches enough parts to rebuild the Distributor/Ignition System on th side of the road.

Here is an interesting commentary, i went to high school in SE Kansas in the mid 90's (Class o' 96') and it would seem that from November on 90% of the boys with trucks kept an Ott-6 in them without issue.... oh how times have changed for the worse, kids wouldn't dare dream of it these days (except maybe in old school - Rural Areas)

My 86 K20 I bought from my dad in 1996 had a sheet metal shelf that dad must have bought from JC Whitney or some other truck shop. Had 3 shelves and angled same as the seat. So you could still have the seat all the way back. Have never seen these for again.
My 1986 M1008 still has the M16 rifle holding brackets in the corners. For me behind the seat is where my hunting shot gun goes.

The pouch, not sure do they even sell these things any more?

Included is enough ignition/distributor parts to get going, The red wire is a bypass for the ESC will one of these days when i have the aircleaner off will take pics of what we have setup to bypass.

Second is the wonderful speaker install, farm engineering at its best, they work and don't rattle ..... the mounts work the "sound system" which is the two speakers and an old Jensen tape deck (still works too)

I found a little canvas job from the '60s called a 'Pik-Pocket' that mounts under the rear window and to the back of the seat. It opens up when the seat is pulled forward, exposing all kinds of storage areas, including a rifle pocket.
