I just got home from a week at the Outer Banks(Corolla to be exact). I gotta say i love driving on the beach having the lockers front and rear! Drove up over a dune after watching a powerstroke fail many times! :) my truck had no issues, even on these extremely old tires. These trucks are beasts! anyone else like driving on the beach or have some awesome stories? here's some pics, wish i had brought a go pro!

Very nice looking truck. Your old tires probably actually helped keep you out of trouble. I had a full size '86 Chevy Blazer I drove on the beach many years ago with BF Goodrich radial TA street tires on it that were very wide. The tires could spin on the sand without digging down.

What type of lockers do you have on that?

I like driving on the sand too! I have not taken my 79 there, but I used to take my 05 Sierra up Silver Lake Sand Dunes in Mears, MI. I might take my 79 up there this year, not sure yet. If I do I will take pics.

Up in the dunes A/T tires are the ticket for getting around. M/T's dig to quick up there. I am not surprised at all your tires did great on the beach. Did you air them down? Silver Lake's sand conditions dictate you air down your tires. I was running 8-11 psi in the front and 6-9 psi in the rear of my 05. In 4L, if I kept the tires moving I could go up all the steepest and hardest hills up there. I could do about 75% of the grounds in 2wd also. Lots of fun, but it can be hard on the vehicles if you are not careful.
