The gas in my tank is at least 1 year old. I hadnt planned on it sitting that long. How bad is 1 year old gas? I feel like I should drain the tanks and put fresh gas in. Thoughts?

Unless you'd put some kind of stabilizer in it or something before it sat then I'd probably play it safe and drain it and put fresh gas in it.

Had this happen when I was rebuilding my engine... I cut it with some fresh 87octane and was fine. How much do you have in the tank?

I'd think if you could at least cut it with equal parts, stale and fresh you'd be alright. If you can do more then even better.

Any hints on this? Does a guy need to drop the brackets to pull the tank? I need to remove my passenger side tank..

If I remember right (it's been a decade) you had to undo the straps and everything to get the tank down

Haha...it's honestly not a terrible job if my '77 is the same as your '80. Be sure and spray a bunch of penetrating oil up there leading up to the day of the job, though. Should make it easier.

I've dropped the tanks before by just leaving the straps in place and taking out the bolts for the brackets. If you're re-installing the same tank it also makes it easier to put it back in as you don't have to realign the straps on the tank.

x2. This is how I do all my tanks. I just support it with a jack and a board, and then unbolt the brackets and down she goes with a turn of the jack handle.
