Automatic conversion help

Id like to put an automatic transmisson in my truck. Im not sure what transmisson to buy my truck is a 1984 1/2 ton with an inline 6 4.1 what trans is best? What did these come with stock?

You could do a 700R4. I think that would work well with your six banger. I'm not completely sure if you could get a 700R4 optioned with the six cylinder, but the only other option would have been a TH350 three speed. The 700R4 is four speed overdrive so your truck would cruise well.

Turbo 350 or 700r4 as stated. I'd let me rear end gear ratio decide that. If I were 3.42's or higher, I'd go 700r4. If It were 3.08 on down I'd go Turbo 350.
