I was at Cruisin The Coast, a 10,000 car event this week in MS. I drove my 86 Custom Deluxe there and was fortunate to sell it to someone who knew more about trucks than I.
I met a gentleman who claims he owned and desired to sell his 86 Silverado claiming it had 22k original miles. He had no paperwork to authenticate. Much about the truck looked like there was only 22k miles but things like an aftermarket radio bothered me.
The question: is there a certain area or areas I should look to verify before I get too excited? He was asking 11k for it.
Thanks again for you guys expertise...

The only thing you can do is see if the engine is numbers matching and the SPID is original. Other things is as per owner.

Service Parts Identification label, should be in the glove box.

Just need to check out the truck really well, and it's still just an educated guess really. If 22K is legit, should be a really clean truck with nice ORIGINAL paint. Unless it sat if a field or something and saw a lot of weather, but at that point, even a legit 22K doesn't mean much.

Look at the brake pedal pad for wear, drivers door hinge for worn out pins and lots of slop. If he has original GM keys, see how worn down the teeth are, and windshield wiper linkage for slop. Those things will tell you if it's 22k or 122k pretty easily.

A vehicle history report will tell you what year and mileage the truck was titled at in the past. The only issue is it cost money :(

I ran a car fax..it confirms what our title folks in MS say...and the seller. Brake pedal is so easy to replace..I like the door hinge, windshield wiper inspection..I just hope I will appreciate the difference between worn and old age...but thank you men again.

Smell the drivers seat right about where the last owners butt hole would be.
If you can still smell the seat foam, chances are it's low miles!

Wear and tear on the drivers door handle and window crank knob.
Look underneath where the speedometer cable enters the transmission. If the cable was removed for some time, you may be able to determine this upon close inspection. The cable tightening collar should not have any scratches (pliers removing it) or marks and it should be just as dirty as everything else on the transmission.
