Just curious on something... i'm aware this is sorta 73-87 'square bodies' but they used the same chassis (with a new grille) on the suburbans up until 1991 according to every reference I can find. :)

I'm just curious what notable differences there are vs a 1987 model if anyone knows offhand... (beyond visual modifications for the newer grille I mean)

I ask if it's welcome here because if i'm shopping for a replacement truck i'm wondering if I can pick brains here about those years or not (ONLY for Suburbans which shared that chassis) since they aren't really the newer 90's redesign.

PS - my reason for posting this in tech is because it is a tech question on differences, and will turn into a "advantages or disadvantages" question about whether it's better to look for "up to 87" vs "88-91" suburbans when i'm in the market later on...

Comparing my '90 to my previous '89 it has power mirrors and the doors are sealed better with plastic sheeting behind the door panels. Some of the later models got the 4l trans instead of the 700 r4. And in my opinion the insulation under the carpet is much better than the older one. Little things like that in just a year difference.

POWER MIRROR OPTION:rockit:

They are nice but I have 2 cons:

- They are small and it's a real pain in the ass to see when backing a trailer up on a curve, which I do on almost a daily basis.

- They are in the way when going through a drive through bank or restaurant. Constantly hitting my hand on it trying to reach the ATM or getting handed my drink/food. They just sit too far back in the window opening for me. The power adjustment option is the only thing keeping me from swapping the '89's Dumbo mirrors on this Burb. If I get my hands on a Dumbo style power mirror these factory ones will be removed and sold.

There was. But it was on vans. And GMT400s also had an available dealer installed power Dumbo.

I have a set of the power mirrors and I hate them they just look stupid anyone interested in them. I have the special side windows with the blacked out part also.

Be careful what you wish for. I've heard 89S has a tight spincter muscle in his butthole and he'll pinch your pecker off. Besides, he's only interested in that when he's had a few beers and you'd have to dress up like a girl. :Insane:

Ohhh and BTW, of course all the Squarebody chassis are welcome here regardless of year model, so 73-87 (91) is fine.

As far as comfort, available options and economy go, I think '91 is the ideal year if you want a 3/4 ton. '90 or '91 is pretty much the same when it comes to a 1/2 ton. But overall, a Burb of any year is hard to beat.

X2. I wish I had a '91 with the 4L80, that's the only year I'd trade for.

I myself prefer a 89-91 Burb. The updated cloth pattern, the mini quads, the power mirror options and of course the 91 3/4 is the one to have but good luck finding one. I'd love to have a K20/K2500 in a 91.

Only if Retro wrapped his legs around my head and rode me like a bicycle seat. :love62:
