4 speed over drive

So, this followed me home this afternoon.

Casually surfing craigslist last week and found an add for a four speed manual with overdrive listed at a salvage yard a town over. Having heard how rare these are, I went out today to check it out. It's out of an '86 that the yard owner got from a customer who had been driving it, then pulled the engine for another truck. The linkages on the shifter are soaking in pb blaster at the moment but when unbolted and shifted with a wrench, everything seems to work. Got it with the cross member, transfer case, and front shaft for $200.00

And I'll be going back to this yard too. It's loaded with stuff from the mid '80s to late '90s.
even saw 3 old postal jeeps in the collection. I honestly haven't seen a lot like this since junkyard hunting in high school. A few vehicles from the '60s too.

not sure what I'll end up doing with it, already have an sm465 with a 205 case to go into the '87.

I have never heard of a 4 speed manual with overdrive for these trucks. I would say you got a good deal on it too.

There's a whole thread on here somewhere about them. I knew they existed, but never thought too much about them until I read the discussion. It's designated an A833 or maybe A883? Can't recall exactly.

Would this not be a 3 speed like the SM465 with the overdrive that can added by gear vendors?

Ok I have heard about those transmissions but I didn't know what they were. I have the 465 with a 205 and that is fine with me.

Yeah, I like those old heavy duty ones too. I've got that same set-up sitting on the barn floor waiting to go into my '87.

No. This is just a four speed with fourth being overdrive.

had another trans come home with me today too. Found a deal on a newer 465 with the 32 spline output shaft and the round pattern T-case adapter. Wasn't lucky enough to score the case though.
