Took awhile to get in Saturday seeing as how my picker is too short to use for our trucks but I made it work and got her in and bolted up to the tranny

So I woke up Sunday morning expecting to get the headers on and a couple of the front accessories and pulleys,...
Instead I looked at my headers and thought Ew I can't put those things on that new engine so I sanded them down

Came across this stuff at advance auto parts and figured I would give it a try on the headers

The stuff went on pretty nicely but I tried to follow the directions on the can as closely as I could I sprayed about 3 very light coats then went over that a little bit heavier.
For those wondering I did try to cure these as the can suggested however I could not fit them in my kitchen oven (not even close to fitting!)
I heard these coatings were worthless unless you cured them however so I was set on finding a way to cure them so I ended up using a blow torch and slowly starting from about 6 inches away began to heat them up and let them cool as the can suggested

They seemed to cure as the paint has hardened quite a bit now and I feel confident they will hold up but only time will tell ill report back once they are on the truck for awhile

They did, however I could still smell them burning when I started the truck up so i did the on vehicle curing process as well and after 20 minutes it hasn't smelled since and still is holding up great

So, how did this 383 crate engine do? Was it worth the $5,000? I have read nothing but good things about this engine, and chevyhiperformance tested it fresh from the crate and also with different components on it. The numbers fresh from the crate were impressive. They did something like 4 articles on the various things they did and dyno'd it each time. It is amazing how much power this engine has even without altering it.

Fill us in this mighty mouse crate engine.

I actually ended up building my 383 from the original 350 block and went forged on most components and I'm very happy with the outcome and power it produces
