Funny, I used 2 1/2" 10 GA seamless carbon steel boiler tube for my 71, was left over from doing an economizer project. I'ts lasted great and helped quite the drone in the cab a bit, was just a pain to bend though because OD was slightly larger than the shoe I used, so had to do many small bends to make a radius without kinking the tube. (Kinking the tube can be painful, lol)

I drove with open headers on 468 bbc with a tiny blower. I got tired of it relatively quickly. But a set of cheaper glass packs did not make it sound any quieter. Borla or magnaflow or a set of turbo mufflers would be my vote. Had a set of turbo mufflers on the TA a while back and they were relatively low in noise at idle but opened up at full throttle.
Open exhaust on a 5.3 was relatively loud as well, but nowhere close to the old big block
open exhaust on stock 5.3ls:

glass packs on a big block(very old poor phone recording):

had a video of turbo mufflers somewhere but it is lost for now

I was into loud taco pipes back in my younger years. Now I like it as quiet as I can get it. I go with economy mufflers. Next time I have exhaust work done I'll be getting the 454 mufflers that Hot Rod mentioned in another post.

Get it right lol opinions are like ********, everyone has one and they usually stink. :D
I’d like to add that someone’s .02 is more viable,as it comes from experience, an opinion is an emotion/ feeling and feelings can be hurt.....if you have them mine are imune so I will give both lol
