Dawn dishwashing detergent is designed to cut grease, and it works well for just about any grease on any engine. As long as you don’t get it into the engine through the carb or valve cover holes, it will rinse off without causing any damage to anything. It works much better if you use a light bristle brush or a small dish sponge (the thin blue ones) to rub the heavy grime areas.
