i know this is not about a square body but my mom has a 1995 gmc 1/2 ton truck.. recently when we try to start i all we hear is a click at the starter. it sounds like it is engaging the gear but not turning. we replaced the battery and i had the starter tested and they say its good.. anything else i can try ? thanks for the help!

the battery to starter cable is usually the culprit.

In my 96 Yukon (based on 1/2 truck platform) this exact problem was determined to be the battery terminal. $3 and 10 minutes later it worked... after spending hundreds on a new battery and starter.

So yeah, check that first.

in these old squares the batt to starter cable is left not replaced countless times... so yea why not change that 15 year old part for a couple $more?

My buddy has a 99 1ton and every now and then the battery is drained dead. Turns out its a gremlin that GM never fixed. The only way he fixed it was with quick disconnects for the terminals and every time he leaves it he disconnects the posts

Not a great solution - it's clearing the ECM meaning it'll run inefficiently until the computer relearns everything, every single time he does that.

Its a 6.2 diesel and there is no other solution cause the drain can not be identified. Its either that or have a dead battery every 2 weeks

Oh... I guess it doesn't matter then. Was more thinking of the gas engine.

You can't check the drain with a meter at your fuse block? That should at least tell you what circuit has the drain.
