Speedo gear in transfer case is good, can spin cable from transfer case end and speedo needle moves in both directions. Guessing stock speedo gears

at 45 mph (guessing of course) speedo may go to 10-15mph

Thoughts?

Since you checked the other usual culprits, I'd bet on a broken or frayed cable. Easy enough to check, pull the end off the back of the speedo, pull the inner cable all the way out of the outer sleeve, and inspect.

Replace as necessary.

On my speedometer there is a u-shaped spring clip on the back with a notch in it. You push the cable in, hold the clip back, and a flared fitting on the end of the cable pushes through and catches on the clip. Your cable end may have popped out of the clip. I know some speedometers also have a threaded fitting, but I don’t know which years.
