Can someone tell me what the double "L" shaped piece is on the sides of my seat? what does it do and is it oriented correctly. I took it apart so long ago I do not recall which way it was facing.
Can I just delete? what is it for?

I see an engineered part that is important. I have no idea what it does but I see a piece of steel that can cut my new seat....if I can delete it I will. Or find out function and make the engineers proud and use it

If it cost them $2 to add those parts, and they made 5 million of those vehicles, then they spent $10,000,000 for that that part to be there. They have full time employees that get paid to figure out what parts can be made cheaper or deleted all together. They usually don't put parts on a car that doesn't need to be there. I would take a look at the truck floor - and if it can attach there. If it cant attach to the floor then I would see about connecting it to the seat back under the cloth/leather.

I'm guessing it goes the other way and locks into place.

My '78 'burb has nothing like that. Do those seats fold forward?

It is there to lock the seat in heavy braking so it doesn’t fly forward. If I remember correctly it uses inertia to activate the lock.

That's why I asked. Suburban seats don't fold forward.

The later high back buckets tilt rearward but not forward. That said, I don't remember seeing this piece on our 79, 84 or 90 Burbs and all had buckets.

If you look down, it looks like it could swing forward and grab a little protrusion at the bottom of the bracket? Looks like they should be pointed down and forward.
