Ok i tore my motor completely down and these are the casting numbers and questions. Im building a motor for daily driver but i.want the power when.i need to show these little hondas a thing or two. Not wanting to spend a whole lot of money the parts are there to use.

Block #3951511-Its a stock 400sb but will be bore 30 over. Its saying its a 4 bolt main in everything i look up but it has 2 bolt main caps. Is it a true 4 bolt?

Crank #3951529D-What does the D mean and is this stock crank good.

Cam #hmv-278-2-Is this a good cam for daily driver? And how does it perform?

Heads #3998997-how good are these heads?

They were available in two or four bolt mains. I believe there were more two bolts produced. Depending on power level the two-bolt mains can be fine. You can do splayed main caps for more strength if needed.

Again, depending on power level, stock crank can be fine. When you get into high compression (12+:1) or boost/nitrous, you probably should look into a forged crank.

I don't know if those are the stock cam and heads, but if they are I would chuck em. Cam is outdated stuff, and I hear these 400's love a set of Vortec heads for great torque, which is what you need to show them little hondas a thing or two.

I read/heard that te 2bolt blocks were actually stronger cause the bolt mains were more prone to cracking.

I have thought about the vortec heads and can get a set for 70 bucks at the local u-pull-it junk yard. But would have to get stronger springs and do some slight work wich i.cannot afford. The heads i got now are 76cc with 1.94 and 1.50 i believe not sure on that. were as the vortecs are 64cc. The cam is a crane cam it has .467/.494 lift with duration at 278"/290" rpm rate is 2500-5500.

I've heard the same. the 2 bolts are actually more desirable and less prone to cracking. Weird it comes up as saying a 4 bolt block, cus I was also thinking, 3 freeze plugs per side means 4 bolt block and 2 plugs per side are 2 bolt mains.

Damn near looks like a big block to me for some reason. Maybe just the pics I guess.

Yea it has 3 freeze plugs per side. 2 in front and i belive 2 int the back. I also read that in 71 they stopped using the 4 bolt main caps cause they were bad about cracking and turned to ****.. excuse my language. So they were still casted as 4 molt mains but used 2 bolt caps. The holes are there for the 4 bolt just not tapped. HotRod what are your opinions on the heads and crank?
