Hey guys I have a 87 V10 with a 305 that has recently thrown a rod and was wondering if anyone has any advice on if you can take an older 350 and put in it IE if the tbi will work and if not what would it take to switch it over or would i be better off just putting a carb on it and getting rid of the tbi

More people will respond with better info for you on this swap but I will add that switching to an older style small block will require a new flywheel or flexplate. If you find one pre 86 its different. I think for the TBI I say swap it all onto the new motor, alot of these guys will have the exact info you need.

Are you somewhere with emissions and/or inspections prohibiting you from going with a carb?

Your easiest route going with a 350 is to carb it out. You will need to add a mechanical pump which requires changing out the "in tank fuel pump". Or if you can go something like an Atomic EFI system en leiu of a carb.

If you want to go 350, you will need TBI heads and intake. Your ECM, I believe, will have to be re-programmed or find a 350 TBI ECM. I know you have to re-program if you go 454.

I was waiting for Jim to chime in! I was wondering if all older 350s would accept TBI intakes, or was it certain years only?

I hate it when people say put a carb on it. There's a reason new cars don't come with carbs. Its not hard to throw the TBI on the 350. I just used an edelbrock TBI intake, and it was cake.

Brant, wouldn't he also have to get his computer retuned for the 350 to run its best?
