So my truck the past few days has been making this awful loud squealing squelching noise when I crank the key over. The past couple days, it will make it the first time I try to start it about half of the time. Same noise you hear if you try to crank a car that is already started. Is my starter going bad? Thanks.

It can happen if the timing is over advanced, the flexplate/flywheel teeth are worn, starter bendix drive is worn and if the starter isn't shimmed right.

X2 on the starter not shimmed correctly. In the spring mine was doing the same and it was because the starter was not shimmed correctly and therefore wore out the teeth prematurely and then causing the noise. I replaced the starter, made sure it was shimmed correctly this time and she turns over nice and quiet now :)

And check them flex plate to torque convertor bolts while You have it that far down too, if it is an auto transmixer, that is.
