So I had my cluster apart.... and apparently the needles are very brittle since I barely touched two of them and broke them.

Is there anyone that sells just the needles? Or is there a way to pry the needle off of a donor cluster (at the u-pull-it yard)?

Yeah, they break real easy, even the shifter needle too. Great question.

If you find a replacement gauge at a yard you would be better off just switching the gauge, instead of risking breaking another needle.

I have a box full of them.

A way is to take an old three prong fork and remove the middle tine and slip it under the needle and GENTLY move the fork up and down while pulling on the needle.

That is a great idea with the fork! :High 5:

I usually grab the round part with 2 fingers and slowly wiggle it off hoping I don;t slip and break it, lol....

Yeah I actually had 2 other small gauges lying around so I pulled one of the needles off and got it to work (I used a fork). Now I just need to find a speedometer needle...

On a side note, does anyone know if there is a vacuum gauge available for these clusters? And maybe what size they are?

There are. But they are found on the bigger 2+ ton trucks. They are where the clock normally goes. However, the 2+ ton truck clusters also usually have a tach with an integrated fuel gauge.

I'll see if I can dig up a pic.

Oh yeah, that's what I am talking about. The only problem is they are very expensive on Ebay! Lol. What is the model of the 2 ton truck? K20? Or are you talking about even bigger trucks?

I mainly just want to add the vacuum gauge to my cluster.... I have a diesel, and while a tach would be cool, I have no idea how to wire it up. I eventually want to change my gauges out to all mechanical aftermarket as well.... but right now I need to make what I have work due to money.

When you find a way to hook up that tach, you let me know. I've been trying to figure that out for 2 years. Lol. :help:

Trucks like these. I've found non tach clusters with the vacuum gauge too.

They come through every once in awhile at a local u-pull-it. But either the cluster is gone already or basic.

There's also junkyards that cater to bigger trucks. :waytogo:
