I have a '79 1500 on a 4WD 2500 chassis with a new 350 turnkey motor and I'm dissatisfied with the Eidelbrock carburetor. I just purchased a Holley Sniper EFI and two in-tank fuel pumps but the switching valve is backordered. I can find the valve and connector/wiring harness but the 6-pin on/on switch has me stumped.

Two concerns:
1) I heard about the failure rate of some aftermarket switches and want something reliable.
2) It sure would be nice if it looked like the original and not just a toggle.

Anybody?

Welcome from Ohio. Nice looking truck. Can't help you with fuel injection, I'm a Holley carb guy.

We fitted sniper and left the stock pumps in the tanks and used them to feed an in-line single 60 psi pump after the multi tank solenoid. Trick is the oil pressure switch on the back of the block also turns off the solenoid for the pumps. Need to run a new relay for the fuel pump and the oil pressure switch. You will probably find there is nothing wrong with your dash switch. If you have not done so ,gett your self the applicable wiring diagrams.fitting the Holley sounds simple but on these trucks, there are a few things that come up, next one you will face if you have it, is the cruise control.

Thank GTP. I already made the commitment to the in-tank pumps (at quite some expense). It is interesting when shopping for the valve and switch how some sites will recommend the 4-pin original-looking switch for the 6-wire harness. Perhaps you know: Is the original switch an on/on configuration also.

I can't wait to get my cruise control up and running again. That'll be its own adventure.

DB we just went with a stock replacement switch, I think I got it from Brothers or LMC, I only replaced it because my factory switch was a bit loose and that was before Sniper fitment. The oil pressure switch relationship to the fuel solenoid was the hidden issue we had and it took a bit to figure it out. I think from memory the fuel switch wires to the solenoid are purple . We ran new switched power to the high pressure pump, through a relay that the Sniper controls, or at least that’s how I remember it. I wonder if the factory style solenoid will handle the high pressure, might not be a problem for you. The factory pumps only run at around 6 or so PSI. As for the cruise control, that’s a whole different ball game, I have the mechanical side of it sorted but as we removed the ECM and most of the factory harness in the engine bay, the electrical side of the cruise is still a mystery. I think it’s only a simple fix but have spent many hours studying the wiring diagrams and still have not got it sorted. Happy to take photo of the linkage /bracket I made for the cruise control arm to go on the Sniper.

I had a look in my glovebox no plastic bag with anything in it…..lol
yep a photo of what you have there may help, thank you
in the mean time I took a few photos of my linkage set up , hopefully they may be of some use to you.
