building my 84 and need advice

I have a 84 c-10 that may grandfather bought new. When he passed away he left it to my dad. Now im rebuilding it. I have got most rust spots on the body with the por-15. The frame has surface rust that i need to take care of and the bottom of the cab needs to be cleaned really well. There are some things i need to replace like the wheel wells and stuff. But i would like to get it ready to be primed and work on other stuff like the grill and engine stuff after it primed. Where do i need to start. I dont have a lift or anything just working on it in my garage the race car occupies the shop.

Welcome to GMSB Jeff !!! :HIgh 5: All depends on how thorough you want to be. Do you feel you might want to replace body mount bushings too? Me and my dad picked a cab up off a truck once. It was a bare cab, and it was a major struggle, but 4 guys can do it reasonably if you decide to go that far. Or you can use a floor jack under blocks and do 1 one side at a time. While its up, you could lay on your back and clean and paint the bottom. The best might be to remove the bed, then just lay the cab on its back onto the frame, then you can clean and paint the frame under the cab, the bottom of the cab and replace the body bushings as well.

I highly suggest replacing the body mount bushings. Over half the GMSB's i've seen had bad bushings. Just jack up one side, clean, paint, install bushings, then repeat for other side.

I fully intend to replace all of mine. You'll notice many times the cab lines don't line up with the bed lines. That is usually the bad, work, dry rotted and tired body bushings. Replace them, probably good for another 15-20 years.
