AC Compressor Making a Racket

I just brought home a Suburban which had its AC system converted to R-134 back in 2002. The guy who owned it before me had it for a year and said the compressor belt was off when he got it. I installed new belts and threw one on the AC compressor and to my pleasant surprise it worked! However, with the compressor off it is making a decent pitch rubbing noise and turning on the AC is making the belt jump and you can watch the volts drop down as a load is applied. I am wondering if I need to apply any oil to at least allow me to leave the belt hooked up until I can get my truck to mechanic to do the fills or do I need to cut the belt off until then?

Personaly I wouldn't have a belt on the a/c pump with it being the way you explained. Since the belt was off it either stopped working or the pump started making that noise, you can see if it can be saved but depending on how long it hasn't been used and if there is any contamination or leaks you might be out of luck with that.

If there is any contamination or anything like that you could be looking at a good chunk of change.
