79 K20 with 203

Hey guys im new to the fourm and to old trucks, I bought a 79 k20 as soon as i got back from boot camp and its my first old truck. Ive messed with them before but never owned one. Anyway my 203 shifts great from 4loc 4 neutral and low...but it will not go into low loc. I know about the linkages being a pain but im confused why it shifts so firm in all other 4 positions. I have herd if someone has filled it with gear oil instead of motor oil it might not shift properly and idk wuts in it currently. Ideas? thanks....Jack

nevermind! lol I went out and tried it again after i posted this and just put a lil more force and it went down in and i got it in several times. Now i guess ill grease the linkage and change the fluid bc i think it is gear oil and be done.

If it is auto trans they shift easier if the trans is in neutral, not park. Sometimes you might have to get it rolling a little in drive or reverse and quickly hit neutral and bump the shifter where you want it. Also be sure to run motor oil in it, if someone put gear oil in it you should change it.
