1982 gmc 2500 hd aka Toby

hey guys new to this fourm, ive tried to post on other ones and they wont let me for what ever reason ANY WHO i picked up back in january of this year (2013) for $500 its a 1982 gmc 2500 hd aka Toby. It has 160 000 kms on it and has only been owned by the dealership, it was there old tow truck sporting a 350 and a 3 speed standard tranny with bull low. i plan to restore it to originail but leaving some of the tow truck features on it, i am indecisive if i want to put a wrecker boom back in it or no. There will be more photos to come once my girlfiend takes them off her phone. also the little packy lookin guy isnt me its my buddy pat

$500 is a good deal for any square. How do call it an HD when HD's didn't exist then? Some add-on suspension work or what?

ohh hell ya i call it hd because they added just a few leafsprings in the back i think it has 14 total a side

oh also the reason its sitting so low with the extra leafs is the 3 concrete parking curbs in the back haha

There is a thing available that looks like an eraser, it will remove them decals without messing with the paint.

It has been mentioned in here a few times, I do`nt recall the brand or, exactly what they are called.
I have one, from a Mac tools, it came in a set with the wire wheels and the air tool.
Mac Tools calls it a "Rubber Eraser" which is about what it looks like, except on a rubber wheel form, with fingers for cooling.
Ask a parts counter man, the best way for removing decals and mention the rubber wheel tool, He will know what You mean and point You to it.

I kinda consider my truck a Heavy Halfton, or a Light duty 3/4 ton. In the gmt400s, they made a 6bolt 3/4 ton. And thats what i feel my trucks like cause of the gears and everything. It was optioned to pull ****.

mine is a heavy 3/4 ton or 1 ton due to it hauling and towing capability much like an HD is today

when it showed up in 1982 to the dealership it was a 3/4 ton they added the leafs and what not to beef it and up, ive talked to the old timers there and they were telling me they remember putting the leafs in it. NOW heres a question is there a way to tell if its posi with out taking the diff cover off or roasting the tires off it?

as i started the body work and those big leaf packs i was talking about i spent a few hours under the truck with a wire wheel and black spray bomb so it looks much better now ill try to get pictures of that
