1974 Chevy Deluxe Dana 44 to Dana 60 Conversion

I would think that the old light duty axle would not flop around if it came with a smaller set of plates, to match it's smaller size. The corporate one I bought is bigger and it didn't come with a set of plates. I am worried that I have plates that are too small for the corporate axle. I intend...

Don't have measurements yet, but the one larger ubolt is big enough and goes on near the pumpkin, the other three are too small. Cousin said he could bang on with a hammer, but then they'd be a V shape and they wouldn't go into the plates.

This does not explain why the ubolts from the dana 44 are too small for this diff.... I am really getting frustrated with this truck!

Do I need actual bigger u bolts? My cousin said the ones from the dana 44 aren't wide enough to go around the corporate 10 bolt - we confirmed that is what it was.

1974 Chevy Deluxe Dana 44 to Dana 60 Conversion

Will the ubolt plates for my dana 44 work on a corporate 10 bolt? Called all the listings on car-part and no luck. Missing pieces, or listing in accurate, etc.

BTW several junkyards told us to look for 8 lug 4x4 GMs in the 76-87 range and were quoting dana 60s. I'm not doubting any of you, i can see via google that what you said seems correct. Maybe it's just a common misconception.

I find it very odd that when I call a junkyard they quote me the dana 60 automatically and don't mention a 10 bolt - are they called something else?

If the axle housing is thicker like the dana 60 that would be an issue.

If I want to go to 10 bolt, what components do I need besides the actual diff? Can I re-use the dana 44 ubolt plates?

1974 Chevy Deluxe Dana 44 to Dana 60 Conversion

Hmmm. I was told a 3/4 ton pickup had dana 44 from 1973-1976 and from 1976(mid year) to 1987 they used the Dana 60. Are you telling me you can find a stock 1986 K20 truck with a dana 44?

1974 Chevy Deluxe Dana 44 to Dana 60 Conversion

Local junkyard network can't find a dana44. Dana 60 are easier to find around here. If I need to use a Dana 60, what else do I need? One person on FB told me I would need the drag link. My mechanic thought he might need the whole steering setup - but he's only guessing. GM must have switched to...

1974 Chevy Deluxe Dana 44 to Dana 60 Conversion

My Dana 44 blew up. My Cousin Mechanic said easiest route is to swap out a full diff from another truck, rather than try to rebuild the whole thing. He said while I'm at it, we should go for a Dana 60 since my truck has a plow and they are easier to find. Besides the beefier ubolt plates, do we...

    1974 Chevy Custom 20 4x4

So I recently bought a house that has a 500 foot driveway and decided I needed a plow truck. At first I was looking at the 88-98 GM trucks, but couldn't find any available that were any good. Then I decided I might atleast get a truck I like, and I saw this truck for sale for $6500 and it came...

    Old Plow Hydraulic Pump Bracket

Hi, i just bought a 1974 Custom 20 Deluxe pickup with a belt driven plow. The belt driven pump bracket for the plow was cockeyed. The bracket appears to be bent. I was told it's a western plow. Has anyone had any luck finding these pump brackets? I've been doing a lot of google searching and not...
